International Conducting Academy Berlin

Teaching has always been important to Steven Sloane. When he was in his 20s, he founded several youth choirs and orchestras, and he has remained committed to and passionate about conducting youth, student and both national and international young professional orchestras.

Steven Sloane has also been keen to be involved in the training of future generations of conductors. In 2013, he was appointed Professor of Conducting at Berlin’s University of the Arts, where he established the International Conducting Academy Berlin (ICAB), which offers a two-year Master’s degree as well as the unique one-year postgraduate Advanced Professional Training for Conductors program.

Both programs prepare young conductors for their professional lives and are centered on practical experience through extensive cooperation with major musical institutions in Berlin and beyond. They are among very few courses in the world to stress both orchestral and operatic literature and have attracted students from all corners of the globe.
